Update: Swore off at-home appraisals until last week

I used to think meeting clients outside the shop was unprofessional and risky... Then a family emergency had me doing a quick valuation at their kitchen table. Having my loupe and scale in a go-bag made it smooth, and they were so grateful. Now I see how flexible service can really build client loyalty.

What surprised you most about doing it outside the shop?

Actually going the opposite way on this. Thought I'd love the freedom but mostly found it annoying. Tools never where you need them, weather becomes a huge problem. @jordanowens seems into it but for me, the shop is where the real work gets done. You spend more time setting up and breaking down than actually creating anything.

My portable band saw changed everything for quick cuts on site. You lose the perfect shop environment but gain this raw, immediate connection to the material. That trade off is totally worth the extra fifteen minutes of setup.
