Vent: My kitchen drawers were a total clutter nightmare

I mean, I had all these tools I never used, like three garlic presses, idk what I was thinking. I figured out to box up everything except my go-to stuff for a full month. If I didn't grab something from the box, I just donated it. Now my kitchen feels way calmer and I can actually find what I need. Maybe it's just me, but that simple test really helped.

Honestly I used to be the guy who kept everything just in case I needed it later. Reading how you did that month long test with the box totally flipped my view. The garlic press example hit home, because I definitely have duplicate tools buried in there. It seems so obvious now that if you don't reach for it in a whole month, you probably never will. That's a way smarter system than my old habit of just shoving things back in the drawer. I'm going to try that exact thing this weekend.

Yeah that "whole month" rule is what makes it work for me too. I did a smaller version with my kitchen junk drawer and found like five bottle openers. It's wild how much stuff piles up without you even noticing.

Read about a similar idea in a book on simple living. The author called it the 'forgetting box' method where you stash items away and see if you miss them. In my experience, I tried it with my tool drawer and found three identical screwdrivers. Hadn't touched two of them since I moved in, so they went to a friend. That month long test really speeds up the process, like with your garlic press. Makes you realize how much we hold onto for no good reason.
