Rant: My cabin getaway without cell service gave me a new angle on film critics
Choosing films without critic reviews during my trip felt more real and personal.

I watched that new heist movie on Netflix last month without checking the score first. Ended up really liking it, then saw it got torn apart online. Your cabin trip sounds like it proved a point I've felt for years.

Think about how many bad movies I've sat through because I didn't check scores first. Online reviews often highlight problems with plot or acting that ruin the experience. If a movie is torn apart by many people, there's usually a good reason for it. Your cabin trip might be a rare case where being cut off from opinions helped, but most times we need those warnings. Relying only on personal taste can mean wasting time on stuff that just isn't good. Checking scores is a simple way to filter out the real stinkers.

You know what, lisa_lopez90? It's the same with restaurants or music. I'll find a little spot with terrible Yelp reviews and have the best meal, or hear a song on the radio that critics hated and it just hits right. Makes you wonder who these scores are even for. Maybe we're all just looking for different things, and a number can't really capture that.
