Zucchini in a bucket sparked a weird talk with my landlord

I started growing zucchini in a big bucket on my rooftop. My landlord saw it and got worried about the extra weight up there. How do you handle concerns about container gardens in shared spaces?

Ran into this with my balcony garden last year. My landlord was stressed about the pots being too heavy. I moved them to the strongest part near a load bearing wall and used plastic pots instead of ceramic to cut down on weight. You could try weighing your bucket full of soil to show it's not as bad as they think. Offering to add a protective mat under it might ease their mind too.

To expand on @nathancampbell's mat idea, a plywood sheet under all pots spreads weight better.

Man, I used to think landlords were just being difficult about this stuff. Then I saw how much my own balcony sagged after I put three big concrete pots out there. Did the math on a bag of potting soil plus water weight and it was way heavier than I guessed. Now I stick to lightweight plastic containers and keep them near the wall.
