Swapped out a standard impact socket for a deep well on a rusty suspension bolt yesterday in the shop and it made a 10 minute job take 2 minutes instead.

The extra length gave me way better access without needing a swivel adapter and the bolt came out clean, has anyone else noticed a big difference with deep well sockets on stuck hardware?

Changed my stance on spray foam after a disaster in our crawlspace

I used to swear by fiberglass batts for insulation, thought they were easier and cheaper. But last winter a pipe burst in our crawlspace near the furnace and the fiberglass just soaked up everything like a sponge. Had to rip it all out and spend $1,200 on spray foam remediation instead. Has anyone else been burned by a specific insulation choice?

Remember when we had to guess the depth by feel of the cable?

Back in 2008 on the Mississippi job, I was running an old hydraulic dredge with no digital readouts. You had to watch the cable tension and feel the vibration through the cab floor to know if you were digging too deep. Now I got a monitor that tells me exact depth, suction pressure, everything. My old timer foreman woulda laughed at the screens. But I still catch myself looking at the cable more than the screen. Anyone else trust the old feel over the new gadgets?

That "overnight" viral tweet took 4 years of build up

I tracked back a tweet from last week that got 80k retweets about a mom's airport hack. The account had been posting consistently for 4 years with barely 200 likes per post. Right before the viral hit, they'd done 3 threads about travel tips that slowly gained traction. The viral tweet was just the 4th in a series using the exact same format. Anyone else notice the pattern with these overnight successes?

I kept a detailed spreadsheet of every coffee and parking meter for two years. My accountant said I was wasting time on small stuff that didn't matter for taxes. Everybody keeps calling the Nazca Lines 'astronomical calendars' and it drives me nuts

I keep reading articles and watching videos where people claim the Nazca Lines point to solstices or star alignments. But I spent 3 summers down in Peru working on a conservation crew near Palpa, and the locals I talked to actually have oral traditions about them being walking paths for rain rituals. The lines connect to specific mountain springs that flow during certain months. If you actually walk them at ground level instead of just looking at satellite photos, you can see how the paths link up with old water sources. The whole 'astronomical calendar' thing is just a story Western academics made up because they wanted it to be about the sky instead of something practical like water management. Has anyone else spent actual time on the ground there and noticed the same thing?

Tried a new brush head on my rotary and it shredded the soot worse than before

I picked up a polypropylene brush head from a supplier in Denver last month, figured it'd be softer on the flue tiles. First job, it just broke up the soot into tiny dust particles and made a huge mess inside the firebox. Learned that some flues need a stiffer wire brush to actually pull the creosote out instead of grinding it down. Has anyone else had a brush head fail on them like that?

Warning: That new carbon paste from BikeGoo is a total mess

Had a customer bring in a high end road bike last week, a carbon seatpost was slipping. Figured I'd try this new carbon assembly paste everyone's talking about. Big mistake. The stuff is way too thick, like wet sand. Got it all over the frame, took me 20 minutes with isopropyl to clean it up. Even after I got the post in, the torque reading was all over the place because the paste was so clumpy. Ended up wiping it off and going back to my old reliable Finish Line stuff. The job took twice as long. Has anyone found a good carbon paste that actually applies clean?

Finally got a customer to understand why their 6-inch flue liner needs a proper rain cap, not just chicken wire.

After explaining how the wire mesh clogs with creosote and causes moisture issues three times this month, seeing that new stainless steel cap go up felt like a real win.

Showerthought: A chimney in a 1920s house in Boise taught me to always check the damper first

I was halfway through a standard cleaning, covered in soot, when I realized the flue was completely blocked by a rusted damper that had been sealed shut for maybe 50 years. Now I give the damper a full open-close test before I even unroll my drop cloths. Anyone else run into a surprise like that hidden behind years of creosote?

That moment I realized Kylie Jenner deletes posts that bomb...

Saw her delete a post once right as I was about to screenshot it, it was a blurry selfie at a weird angle with like 200k likes. The whole thing makes me wonder if half the "perfect" feeds we see are just heavily edited highlight reels with all the boring stuff swept under the rug. If she's that quick to delete, imagine how many celebs are doing the same thing but we just don't catch it because we're not refreshing every ten seconds. Honestly makes you question how much of social media is even real anymore.
