Pro tip: a retired salesman at a flea market in Toledo told me my phone hears me, and 2 days later I got a weird ad
Last year I was poking around a flea market in Toledo and this older guy named Hank who used to sell radios told me that my phone "listens" even when I'm not typing. I laughed it off, but then I spent 10 minutes at a friend's house holding her baby, and by that night my feed was full of $40 organic baby wrap carriers. I never searched for any of that stuff, so now I do wonder how much of this ad stuff is random and how much is really us being tracked.
Same exact thing happened to me with cat food, my roommate got a kitten and I was around it for like an hour, next day my whole feed was nothing but whiskers and litter boxes. There is no way that was a coincidence. It really does feel like our phones are picking up way more than we want to admit.
