Dropped $35 on a "viral" guacamole ad and got 6 clicks, all from my own zip code
I run a tiny taco stand in Austin and last month I bought a $35 boosted post for a guac video that some food page said was killing it. The ad got 6 clicks and 4 of them came from the same three streets near my apartment. My cousin later pointed out the food page was full of bot comments like "so tasty wow" from profiles with zero friends. I just wanted to know if anyone else has been burned by a cheap ad boost that looked real. How do you check if a page's engagement is actually from real people?
Man, is 35 bucks really worth getting worked up over? That is like two hours of parking in Austin. Six clicks is bad, sure, but you already found the real problem, which is that the food page is full of bots. So now you know, right? Cheap boosts on random food pages are mostly junk, and the people clicking are either bots or your neighbors who already know where your stand is. Next time just tape a sign to your counter or post the video yourself for free, that way you know who is actually watching.
