Just realized I'm the only one here who doesn't use automated bidding

Everyone in my Facebook ad group swears by automated rules now, but I still manually adjust bids every morning at 6am before work. Three months ago I tried switching to automated for a $500 campaign and my CPA shot up by 40% in two days. Anyone else find manual bidding still beats the algorithms for local service ads?

My $15 click cost from automated bidding made me want to throw my laptop out the window too.

My neighbor Dave runs a plumbing company and he told me last week he lost a whole week's worth of leads because his automated bidding started going after people searching for "emergency drain cleaning" at 3am... he was paying $12 per click for people who just wanted to watch a YouTube video about clogged pipes. I tried those automated rules once for my window cleaning ads and within 4 hours it had bid on 18 clicks from people in a town 40 miles away that I don't even service. Manual feels like having the keys to the car, automated feels like letting a teenager with a learner's permit drive your work van.
