I thought that banned Klondike bar ad was fake outrage, then I actually watched the 1993 cut
I always rolled my eyes when people brought up the old Klondike ad that got pulled, figured it was just hype from folks who never saw it. Last Friday I pulled up the actual 1993 broadcast copy on a forum archive and sat through all 30 seconds. The whole thing is way creepier than the posts made it sound, some guy whispering about what he'd do for a Klondike bar while the camera just crawls across his face. I was wrong, that one earned the ban. What other pulled spots do you all think actually deserved it versus just getting a free publicity bump?
The one that actually got me was that 1997 Taco Bell chihuahua spot they yanked after complaints, and I spent years defending it as harmless before I rewatched it sober. My track record on judging banned ads is about as good as my track record picking fantasy football teams.
