The customer's system was working fine before I touched it, swapped the old battery for a fresh one, and then nothing not a single light or beep what do you use when a board just gives up on you mid job like that?

That $200 tool holder system I bought was a total waste

I spent $200 on a fancy magnetic tool rail setup last year, thinking it would keep my end mills organized. After three months, the magnets lost their grip and a $60 carbide bit hit the concrete floor and broke. Anyone else had bad luck with these magnetic holders?

My 16 year old cousin called some drama 'tea' and I had to ask what it meant

Last week at a family bbq in Chicago she kept saying 'spill the tea' and I thought she was talking about actual iced tea. Tbh I been hearing this word everywhere now, is 'tea' just the new way to say gossip or am I still missing something?

Had to choose between butter and shortening for my pie crusts last weekend...

I've always used butter but my aunt swears by shortening for flakiness. Tried her way on a batch of 8 pies for a bake sale Sunday. Shortening crusts were easier to work with but the butter ones tasted way better. Ended up mixing both 50/50 on the last 3 pies and they came out perfect. Anyone else land on a blend that works?

Unpopular opinion: I used to think a pellet smoker was cheating

For two years I ran a stick burner in my backyard in Birmingham, waking up at 4am to babysit fire. I was proud of that smoke ring and bark. Last month a buddy brought over his Traeger for a cookout and I couldn't believe how good the ribs came out with almost no work. I spent the whole day hanging out instead of feeding logs. The flavor was 90% as good as my offset and the consistency was way better. Has anyone else made the switch and felt like they lost some street cred?

Debate: did my credit card balance transfer actually save me money or just drag things out?

I had this $4,200 balance on a card with 22% APR. So I moved it to a 0% balance transfer card thinking I'd knock it out in 6 months. Figured the 3% fee was worth it, came to $126. Well here I am 11 months later and I still owe $1,100 on it. I paid $104 a month but kept telling myself I had time. Now the 0% is about to expire and I'm wondering if I just fooled myself into taking longer than if I'd just gritted my teeth on the high interest. Did any of you actually come out ahead with these transfer deals or is it mostly a mental trick?

Why does nobody talk about the weird way Facebook Ads Manager counts conversions?

I ran a small campaign for a local bike shop in Austin with a $500 budget, targeting people who looked at their site. The manager said we got 22 purchases, but the shop's own system only showed 9. Turns out the default setting counts things like 'add to cart' as a purchase if you don't change it. Learned to always double-check the attribution window and match it to the client's backend. Has anyone else had this happen with a service-based business?

Just compared a standard immersion blender to a high-powered one for a soup special

We ran a butternut squash bisque as a special last week and I used our old, basic immersion blender on the first batch. It left the soup a bit grainy, no matter how long I worked it. For the second batch, I borrowed a much stronger model from the baker, a Vitamix immersion blender. The difference was night and day, it got the soup perfectly smooth in under a minute. Has anyone else found that a more powerful motor is the key for purees, or is it more about the blade design?

Gotta admit I used to think three pages was enough to test something out, but you and @the_piper totally changed my mind on this. I had a similar experience where I gave a short bit to a beta reader and they just nodded along without catching anything major. Now I always give at least a full chapter, it really makes a difference in what they notice.

Skip the networking events, try coffee chats instead

Wait, is this me from three years ago? Cause I was totally that guy who swore by networking events (you know, thinking quantity over quality). But you're right, I went to like 20 events in 2022 and got nothing but awkward small talk and hangovers. A buddy of mine forced me to try the coffee chat thing, and I gotta admit I was wrong. The one on one setting lets you actually dig into someone's career path instead of just hearing their elevator pitch over loud music. Plus people are way more willing to help when you're not screaming over a crowd while holding a half full cup of bad coffee.

Ha, yeah because who needs a piece of history when you can have a CNC machine that costs more than my truck and needs a degree to run, right? I bet that anvil would probably have lasted another hundred years too, but sure, let's melt it down for a car bumper. "Progress" I guess, if progress means replacing something that worked with something that needs constant software updates.
