Spent 6 months editing in Premiere Pro before trying DaVinci Resolve and wow what a difference

I run a small youtube channel doing gaming clips and vlogs, nothing huge but I take it serious. For the longest time I used Premiere Pro because everyone said it's the industry standard. Paying $25 a month for it and dealing with constant crashes. After my third render failed in one week last month I snapped and downloaded DaVinci Resolve for free. The color grading alone is night and day better. It took me about 2 days to figure out the layout but now I cut my editing time by almost half. The noise reduction tool saved a clip I filmed in a dark room that I would have trashed. Has anyone else made the switch and felt like they were wasting money the whole time?

Tried posting at 6am for a week and my engagement tanked

I saw all those posts saying early morning is the best time to post on Instagram, so I shifted my schedule from evenings to 6am for 7 days straight. My reach dropped by 40% compared to the week before, even though my content was the same type of stuff. I think my audience is mainly night owls, and they just weren't seeing it in their feeds when they woke up. Has anyone else found that the 'best time' advice backfired for their specific followers?

Hit 500 upvotes on a photo of a blurry nebula

I posted a shot of the Orion Nebula I took from my backyard in Austin. It was out of focus and had some light pollution streaks through it. Somehow it got 500 upvotes in a day. Meanwhile my perfectly stacked Andromeda shot from a dark sky site got 12. Has anyone else had a mediocre photo do way better than your best work?

Showerthought: Feeding someone else's face into Midjourney is a weird flex

I was trying to mash up a vintage tractor with a croissant and accidentally merged my own profile into it, creating a horrifying loaf-man hybrid that took 45 minutes of negative prompts to fix. Has anyone else had to aggressively undo their own anatomy showing up in a weird place?

TIL the hard way about mold in sand binders

Spent three whole days trying to figure out why our molds were crumbly and failing every pour. Turns out the sand binder had been sitting too long in a damp corner of the shop (opposite Tacoma, so that's on me). Finally a retired guy from the morning shift walked over and sniffed the bucket, then just said 'that's gone sour, pal.' Has anyone else had a batch of resin or binder go bad on them and ruin a whole week of work?

I finally stopped saying 'synergy' in every meeting

Honestly, I used to throw around words like 'synergy' and 'leverage' all the time because I thought it made me sound professional. Then about 6 months ago, a client in Austin flat out told me to stop using corporate jargon because it made me sound like I was hiding something. She said, 'Just tell me if the house is overpriced, don't tell me we need to find synergy between the listing price and market trends.' That hit different, you know? Now I just say what I mean - like 'this house needs a price drop' instead of 'we need to align our strategy.' Has anyone else had someone call them out on a buzzword and it stuck with you?

Had a whole beef tenderloin fall apart on me last Tuesday because I didn't let it rest long enough after trimming

I was rushing through prep at the shop on Western Ave around 4pm and started pulling the silverskin before the meat came up to temp, made the whole cut split right down the center when I went to portion it into 8oz filets - anyone else run into this with cold meat or was it just my bad knife angle?

TIL turning down the AC at night saves $40 a month

My electric bill jumped $60 in July, so I set the thermostat to 78 at night instead of 72. After two months it dropped by $40, and I barely noticed the difference.

Burping jars daily is a sign your airlock setup is wrong

If you're opening your jars to release pressure every day, you're letting in oxygen and risking mold. Get proper airlocks or self-burping lids they're $15 for a set and stop messing with the seal. Anyone else ditch the daily burp routine and see better results?

Just realized a 10 minute sketch trick saves me hours of rework

I got so frustrated last month trying to draft a whole dress pattern from scratch. I kept messing up the proportions, like the waist was way too high and the bust darts were off. Then I remembered a tip from an old sewing blog I read years ago. I started doing a quick 10 minute sketch on grid paper before cutting anything, just blocking out the basic shapes and seam lines. It sounds so simple, but it forced me to see where things would clash, like where the side seam hit versus the hip curve. After doing that for three projects in a row, I've saved maybe 5 hours of wasted fabric and seam ripping. Has anyone else found a dumb little planning step that actually works better than big fancy tools?
