A kid at a garage sale asked why my old toy robot still had a scratch on its face
I dug my 1987 robot out of a box in my parents' attic in Fresno last month and put it on a table at their garage sale, priced at $3. A boy who looked about 8 picked it up and asked why the face had a long scratch, and when I said my little brother did it in 1990 he just nodded and said "so it's got a story," then handed me the $3. Do you still have a beat-up toy where the damage is the best part of it?
Wait, the kid handed you the $3 without even trying to talk you down? An 8 year old in this economy? My nephew tried to get me to pay HIM for a toy he was giving away. But seriously, that scratch thing gets me. My old stuffed bear has a ripped ear from where our dog got him in like 1993 and my mom actually tried to throw him out when I moved. I kept him because a mint version of the same bear sells online for like $15 but mine is the only one with that ear. The damage really is the whole point. A perfect version of your robot is just a robot, but yours is the one your brother messed up, and now some kid gets that better than most adults do.
