Why does nobody warn you that a Slinky on a carpeted stair will just sit there and laugh at you?
I found my old Slinky in a box at my mom's house in Cincinnati last month and got way too excited. I brought it home thinking I'd relive the magic on my stairs, but I forgot my whole place is carpeted. That thing did not walk down a single step. It just flopped over and sat there like a sad metal noodle. So I tried it on the kitchen counter, and it shot off the edge and hit my dog in the face. He's fine, but he won't come near me when I'm holding it. Then I tried the basement steps, which are wood but steep, and it went down about 4 steps before tangling into a knot I still can't undo. I guess the toy always worked because my childhood house had short pile carpet and just the right angle. Did anyone else have a Slinky that only worked in one specific spot in the house, or was mine just defective?
The "sad metal noodle" line got me because I have been that exact person standing in my hallway feeling personally betrayed by a toy. Mine only ever worked on the one stair landing at my grandma's place, the wood one with the little lip on the edge, and every other surface in my life has been a letdown since. I once spent a whole Sunday trying it on a coffee table and it just rattled in place like it was mocking me. Then I tried the sidewalk and it walked about two feet before flopping over like it gave up on life. The dog part is rough but honestly the Slinky owes you an apology at this point.
