Retainer clause review took 11 days, felt like 11 years
We signed a new corporate client back in March and our standard retainer language looked fine at first. Then their procurement team pushed back on the auto-renewal part, and I figured it was a quick fix. Turned out their legal wanted us to rewrite the whole termination notice section, and our own carrier contract had a conflict with their required indemnity wording. It took 11 days of email tennis with three different lawyers on their side. I thought I knew our templates inside out, but this one exposed gaps I had never even considered. Ever had a client request that forced you to rewrite something you assumed was boilerplate? How long did that back and forth run for you?
A buddy of mine had a client demand he swap out his late fee terms three times and it dragged on for almost two weeks. Turns out their finance team kept changing who had to approve it, so he was basically waiting on people, not paperwork.
