TIL a client contract I wrote for a $15k project had a huge loophole after a lawyer friend in Chicago pointed it out over coffee.
I used to copy old boilerplate from past deals, but now I pay for a proper contract review service for any job over five grand because that loophole could have cost me the whole fee.

Paying for a review on bigger jobs is just the cost of business" feels like giving up your own smarts though. I've used my own edited templates for jobs way bigger than five grand for years. You learn more by fixing your own mistakes (and yeah, I've had a couple) than by just paying someone else to do the thinking. That lawyer coffee chat was free and taught you what to look for next time.

Copying old boilerplate is playing with fire. That lawyer friend saved your skin. Paying for a review on bigger jobs is just the cost of doing business now. Smart move to learn that lesson before it got really expensive.
