Just wasted $25 on an AI upscaler that made my mashups worse

I bought some fancy AI upscaler to clean up my weird cat and pizza combos for a print I wanted to hang. It added this creepy plastic shine to every image and took like 20 minutes per file for no reason. Anyone else found a free tip for making these mashups crisper without ruining the fun parts?
