My sister says preheating the air fryer is a waste of time, I say it's the difference between crispy and soggy
So my sister came over last weekend and watched me preheat my air fryer for 3 minutes before throwing in a batch of frozen fries, and she looked at me like I just set $20 on fire. She said she never preheats hers and everything comes out fine. I told her fine is not the same as good, and we ended up making two batches side by side to settle it. The preheated batch had a way better crust on the outside and the inside was fluffy, while hers were kinda pale and limp in the middle. I think the issue is that people treat an air fryer like a microwave when it's really a tiny oven, and ovens get preheated for a reason. Now she's mad because she has to admit I was right, but she says the extra 3 minutes isn't worth it for a single serving of chicken nuggets. I get that argument for small stuff, but for anything breaded or frozen I just don't see how you skip it. Does anyone here actually skip the preheat on purpose, and if so what foods does it not matter for?
Get where you're coming from on this because the preheat thing is real and people act like you're crazy for doing it. Your sister isn't totally wrong though, since some stuff truly doesn't care, like reheating pizza, toasting a bagel, or warming up leftovers that are already cooked. But frozen breaded stuff and anything you want crispy on the outside? Skipping the preheat is just asking for sadness. The whole point is that the basket and the hot air need to hit the food fast to seal that crust before the inside steams itself. Three minutes is nothing compared to the microwave texture you get without it. You were right and she knows it, she's just mad about it.
