Saw a guy at the grocery store trying to air fry a whole pineapple
I was at the Safeway on 5th Street yesterday grabbing some chicken, and this dude in front of me had a whole, unpeeled pineapple in his cart. I joked about making a tropical drink, and he said, no, he was going to try it in his air fryer. He said he saw a video where you cook it for 40 minutes to caramelize it. I just stared at him. Has anyone actually tried something that wild? I feel like my air fryer would just make a huge, sticky mess.

Oh my god, that is a DISASTER waiting to happen. The sugar in that pineapple would just melt and drip everywhere, like hot lava glue. You'd open that air fryer to a crime scene. I can already picture the burnt, sticky goo welded to the basket. That guy is braver than any soldier.

Actually, you can air fry a whole pineapple, but you have to prep it right. You need to cut off the top and bottom, peel it, and core it first. In my experience, if you slice it into rings or chunks, it comes out great. The high heat does caramelize the natural sugars without making a total mess, as long as you don't overload the basket.

Sounds like a great way to turn a perfectly good pineapple into a science experiment gone wrong. All that sugar just turns into napalm for your kitchen appliances. You'd need a sandblaster to clean the basket afterward. Some people just enjoy living on the edge, I guess.
