Dropped $180 on a digital protractor I barely touch now
Thought it would speed up my rigging checks, but my old bevel gauge does the same job fine. After 3 jobs, it just sits in the drawer. Anyone else bought a fancy tool that ended up being overkill for your usual work?
The "sits in the drawer" part got me because I have a whole drawer like that. Bought a nice dial indicator setup for checking runout on shafts, used it twice, and now it just watches me grab my feeler gauges like always. Same deal with a fancy laser level I swore would change everything. Turns out for the stuff I actually do, eyeballing it and a torpedo level gets me close enough every time. Those tools are fine for the guys doing precision work all day, but for the once in a while jobs they just cost money and take up space.
