Hot take: my $40 torque wrench beats the $300 shop one for tire changes
A buddy asked me to help swap tires on his Cherokee at his garage in Tulsa a couple weeks back. I grabbed my cheap beam style wrench off the bench and he laughed, said the shop uses a clicker that costs way more. But I checked it against the calibration tester at work and it held within 2 percent across the whole range, while the fancy one in the toolbox drifted 8 pounds off at 100 ft-lbs. Turns out simple and repeatable beats expensive and sloppy every time, at least for lug nuts. Anyone else run beam wrenches on the line or am I the odd one out?
