Blew $180 on a cheap wire tracer and it found nothing but noise
Bought a no name tone generator and probe kit for around $180 online last year because my old Fluke finally died. Ran it on a job in a two story house with old knob and tube mixed in and the thing picked up every neutral in the wall, could not tell one run from another. Ended up pulling the drywall in two spots I did not need to open, and the customer was not happy about the patch work. Finally borrowed a buddy's higher end tracer and the difference was night and day on the same wires. What tracer setups are you guys actually trusting on old houses like this, or is there a trick I am missing?
