Hot take: hardwired sensors beat wireless kits after 14 months dealing with both
Last spring I took on two jobs back to back in Fort Worth. One was a full hardwire rough-in on a new build, the other a retrofit where the homeowner wanted everything wireless to save on drywall work. Fourteen months later the wireless house has had 9 low battery chirps, 3 sensors drop off the panel for no reason, and one window contact that keeps reporting tamper when it rains. The hardwired place has had zero callbacks. Zero. The wireless stuff was faster to install, sure, I knocked out that retrofit in a day and a half. But I've been back to that house 4 times and the customer is starting to give me that look like I sold him junk. Meanwhile the new build guy hasn't called me once. I get why people push wireless for older homes, but if there's any way to fish wire I'm doing it from here on out. Anyone else done the math on how many truck rolls a wireless panel costs you over a year?
