A retired plumber on Central Ave talked me out of the 24 hour rooter guys, and my drain has been fine for 8 months
Everybody in this town swears you have to call one of those big 24 hour drain companies when your main line backs up, and I used to believe it too. Back in February my kitchen line clogged and I was ready to hand some call center 400 dollars for a midnight visit. My neighbor's uncle Ray, who ran his own plumbing truck here for 31 years before he retired, happened to be out front and asked what was going on. He said the 24 hour places just send a guy with a cable who jets it and leaves, and the real fix is finding out why it clogged in the first place. He walked me through renting a 40 dollar auger from the spot on Lomas and pulling the cleanout myself, then told me to run hot water down it every Sunday. Haven't had a backup since, and I'm out 40 bucks instead of 400. Anyone else here had a neighbor talk them out of a service call and end up better off?
Did Ray mention anything about those big outfits just wanting repeat customers? I heard a guy on a podcast say the same thing, that they make more money when your line clogs again in six months.
