City told me to trim the tree before calling 311, that was backwards

Last month I called Albuquerque Services about a branch touching my roof line and the operator said I had to cut it myself first or they wouldn't send anyone out. I spent $180 renting a pole saw and spent a whole Saturday on it, then found out the city only handles trees on the easement, which this one wasn't anyway. Has anyone else gotten flat wrong info from that 311 line, or did I just catch someone having a bad day?

City garbage pickup versus the private haulers, who is actually cheaper?

I ran the numbers on my block in the Northeast Heights, city bulk pickup cost me about $40 in fees last spring for a couch and an old water heater, but one of those private guys quoted me $120 for the same haul. The city was slower by like two weeks, but it was way less hassle, has anyone else found the private services worth the extra cash for speed?.

The city dump's pick-a-part yard saved my water heater install

Last month my old water heater finally gave out in the Northeast Heights, and a plumber quoted me $900 for parts and labor. I drove to the ABQ Recycling Center on Edith and found a nearly new 40-gallon unit for $75, still had the serial sticker showing it was only 2 years old. I rented a dolly from Home Depot for $18 and swapped it myself in about 4 hours with a YouTube tutorial. Has anyone else had luck pulling usable appliances from the city yard, or do you stick with buying new?

Trash pickup guy told me to bag my loose branches and now my curb looks 10x better

He said 'you're making us pick up sticks for 20 minutes' and after I started bundling them the route runs smoother and I've stopped getting the sideways looks from the driver, has anyone else had a hauler give them a tip like that?

That canopy repair guy on San Mateo deserves a shoutout

I had a bent frame on my patio canopy after the last windstorm and figured it was toast. Found a shop off San Mateo near the old strip mall, Juan's Welding and Repair, and he fixed it for $60 in about 20 minutes. Thing holds up better than when I bought it new. Anyone else got a go-to spot for random metal fixes that doesn't charge an arm and a leg?

Best week I've had with a local HVAC crew in years

My AC died last Tuesday during that 98 degree stretch and I called three places. One quoted me $900 just to look at it, another couldn't come for a week. This little family outfit off Eubank showed up same day, found a bad capacitor, had the part in their truck and charged me $230 total. They even showed me the old part and explained why it failed. Has anyone else had good luck with those smaller non-chain shops around the heights? I'm keeping their number on my fridge.

Our AC quit yesterday and I'm scrambling to find someone reliable. Saw Nespolo Mechanical pop up with good reviews. Has anyone actually had them do a repair, or just installs? How are they with troubleshooting tricky issues?
