Choosing between two plumbers on Montgomery turned into a 3 day mess

When my water heater started leaking in March, I got two quotes. One guy from a big company on Montgomery quoted $1,850 and could come the next day. The other was a one man shop off Eubank who quoted $1,200 but was booked out 9 days. I went with the cheaper guy and waited. Big mistake. He showed up late on day 9, took the old unit out, then said he had to order a part and didn't come back for 3 more days. We had no hot water that whole time. Has anyone found a plumber in this town who is both fair priced and shows up when they say?

Fair priced and shows up when they say" is the million dollar question around here. My buddy went through almost the same thing last fall with a guy off Central. Quote was solid, guy seemed on the level, said he'd be there Tuesday at 8. Tuesday came and went, then Wednesday, then he finally rolls in Thursday afternoon with some story about a family thing. Did good work once he got going but my buddy was heating water on the stove for four days. He ended up calling the big shop on Montgomery just to get it done, paid more, but at least they showed.
