Solar panel install quote in Albuquerque was 40% cheaper elsewhere

Got a quote from a big national company for a 6 kW setup and they wanted $18k. Local outfit in Nob Hill did the same work for $10,800 with better panels and a 25 year warranty. Why does everyone assume the big names are the only option around here?

Went through the same thing last spring. The big company quoted me $21k for a 7 kW system, then a local guy in Rio Rancho did it for $13k with better equipment. The thing is, those national companies spend a ton on ads and sales reps, and you pay for all of it. The local crew just wants the work and lives off word of mouth. Ask for cash price too, some places knock off a few grand if you skip the financing. Get three local quotes minimum and check their license with the state. Big names are not worth the extra money here.
