The city inspector who told me my cleanout covers were facing the wrong way
Back in 2017 I was doing a sewer line swap over near the North Valley and I was proud of the work. Straight pipe, good slope, clean joints. City inspector comes by, older guy named Rudy, and he just looks at the two cleanout covers on the outside wall. He doesn't say anything for a minute, then goes 'you put these facing the street so the neighbor kids can pop them open and drop rocks in there.' I had never thought about that. I always put them where they were easiest for me to reach with my auger. He made me rotate both of them 90 degrees so they faced the side fence, and added a little lock tab on each. Cost me an extra hour and about $14 in parts. Since then I've done that on every single job, even the ones that don't get inspected. That one comment from Rudy probably saved me ten callbacks over the years. Anyone else have a code guy or a regular customer point out something so simple you felt dumb for not seeing it yourself?
