Vent: the plumber on San Mateo quoted me $850 for a leak I fixed for $12
Last month my kitchen faucet started dripping at night and I could hear it from the bedroom, so I called one of the big plumbing services off San Mateo. The guy came out, poked around under the sink for maybe 15 minutes, and handed me a quote for $850. Said the whole fixture was shot and it was a "full replacement job." Something felt off, so I told him I wanted to think about it and paid the $89 trip fee. My neighbor Rick, who used to do maintenance at a hotel downtown, took one look at it and said it was just the cartridge. I grabbed the part at a hardware store on Menaul for $12 and we had it swapped out in 20 minutes. That was 5 weeks ago and it has not dripped once. I get that plumbers have overhead and gas and insurance, but $850 for a $12 cartridge is wild to me. Has anyone else gotten a crazy quote from one of these big Albuquerque shops, and did you just pay it or get a second opinion?
