At a con panel last month someone said 'skip the filler arcs' and it changed how I rewatch stuff

I was at Anime Expo in LA during a Q&A and the speaker mentioned skipping entire filler arcs for a cleaner experience. I tried it on Bleach last week and now I wonder if I missed anything important or if they were right all along-have you ever skipped filler and regretted it later?

Man, I skipped filler on Naruto and regretted it because some of those episodes had actual character moments.

Skipping filler actually made me love Bleach more since the pacing finally felt right...

The filler skip works because Bleach's anime team padded out stuff that was already in the manga, so you aren't really losing anything. @finley729 is right that the pacing feels better, but what people don't talk about is how skipping filler messes with your sense of the show's original airing experience. Back in the day, those breaks between canon arcs let the manga get ahead, so without the filler you lose that context of why they were there in the first place.
