Found out the average anime fan spends $600 a year on merch and I'm somehow below that

I saw this stat on some crunchyroll blog post last month. $600 average for figures, posters, dvds, all that. I did the math on what I spent in 2023 and it was only around $200. Either I'm way more casual than I thought or everyone else is just loaded.

Oh man, tbh I feel this so hard. I spent maybe $300 last year and thought I was being extra. Got like three figures and a couple shirts from conventions. Seeing that $600 number made me wonder if I'm even a real fan or just cheap. Solidarity from someone else who's apparently below average too.

Ha, right?! I literally had the same thought when I saw that average. I'm over here thinking I'm a big spender because I bought like two nice statues and a hoodie from a con last year, and that barely cracked $250. Now I'm wondering if I'm just a casual or if everyone else is just way more into it than me. But hey, at least we're in the cheap seats together, right?
