Re-watching Cowboy Bebop in 2023 hit different than my 2003 Toonami cut
The Blu-ray version I grabbed at a con in Denver for $40 keeps the same jazz but the cleaned-up print loses that fuzzy late-night vibe I remembered. Anyone else find that the way you first watched a show matters more than the remaster?
Honestly I gotta disagree with you on this one. A good remaster is just the show looking how it was always meant to look, and Bebop's animation is gorgeous when you can actually see the detail in the backgrounds and the color work. That fuzzy Toonami print wasn't the show, it was a bad cable signal with compression artifacts and commercial breaks cutting off the music. The jazz is the vibe, not the blur, and you can still get that late night feeling watching it at 2am on your couch with the lights off. What you're really missing is being 15 and staying up past your bedtime, and no version of the disc is gonna bring that back. The memories matter, sure, but I don't think the fuzzy picture is what made them.
