Pro tip: That $40 ultrasonic cleaner from Harbor Freight saved my bacon on a crusty control board
I had a range board caked in dried soda and grease, ultrasonic bath with some simple green stripped it clean in 15 minutes where hours of brushing did nothing. Anyone else use these for electronics or am I risking something I haven't thought of?

My 20 year old Harbor Freight ultrasonic sat in the garage for years before I finally tried it on a sticky laptop motherboard last month. I used distilled water with a little bit of rubbing alcohol and the thing melted off old thermal paste gunk in about ten minutes. Only trouble I had was I forgot to take the CMOS battery off first and the board went dead silent for a day until it dried out completely. Felt like a real genius when I plugged it back in and nothing happened.

Did you let it dry with a fan blowing on it for that long?

Did you try firing it back up after a full 48 hours of drying time? I swear these old Harbor Freight units are like the cockroaches of electronics, they just keep going even after you think you killed them.
