Serious question, did I waste $180 on a thermal camera or am I using it wrong
Bought a FLIR ONE Pro 6 months ago thinking it would make diagnosing compressor relays and bad heating elements faster, but I still end up pulling the multimeter out on 9 out of 10 calls. Anybody here actually get real use out of one on the truck, or did I just burn money on a gadget?
Sounds like you bought a $180 cat toy that only works when the cat feels like it. The truth is thermal cams are great for finding hot spots you can't see, but they don't tell you if a relay coil is actually getting voltage, so yeah, the meter is still your main tool. Keep the FLIR for scanning panels and finding air leaks, and stop feeling bad about the multimeter doing the real work.
