Lost a whole day's pay because I tried to save time by not checking for a cavity before a big removal in Portland.

The tree was hollow inside and the trunk split in a way my gear wasn't set for, costing me about $400 and forcing a full replan of the job on site.

That hollow tree is just a really clear version of something that happens everywhere. You skip reading the instructions to assemble furniture faster, and then you're taking the whole thing apart two hours later because you put a panel on backwards. Or you don't check the traffic before leaving, and the "quicker" route lands you in a jam that makes you an hour late. The upfront check always feels like a waste of time until it's the only thing that would have saved you.

Ever notice how that shortcut you take to save ten minutes always ends up costing you two hours? It's like a law of the universe. I see it all the time, people rushing the setup to get to the "real work" faster. But the prep is the real work. That hollow tree just decided to teach you the extra hard way.

Yeah, it's the tech version of measure twice, cut once. Skip the boring steps and the whole thing falls apart later. Pay now or pay more later, every single time.
