Why does nobody talk about skipping the harness for light pruning jobs

Most crews insist on full gear for every climb, but I've learned that moving without it on small ornamentals is faster and safer. You get better balance and can react quicker when you're not weighed down.

My buddy Mark got a flat on I-95 last winter, right at dusk in the pouring rain. He always carried one of those small hydraulic jacks, not the old scissor kind. It had him changed and off the shoulder in maybe five minutes flat, while semis sprayed water past him. Seeing that, @palmer.richard, I finally got why you never risk being without the right gear. He said his hands weren't even shaking afterward because it was so fast.
