My brother thinks the Sutton Hoo helmet is just a fancy bucket

We were arguing about the 1939 Sutton Hoo dig in England, and he said the famous helmet is just a decorated pot for a dead guy's head. It hit different because he's usually right about stuff, but this time he's totally missing the point. That helmet shows a whole lost kingdom's art and power, not just a container. Does anyone else have family who just don't get why a find is a big deal?

Calling it a fancy bucket is kind of missing the whole story. It's a king's battle helmet, made by hand with incredible skill. That object tells us they had metalworkers, artists, and a whole society with power and money. It's not just a pot, it's proof a kingdom was there.

So it's a fancy bucket with a story.

Yeah, the "proof a kingdom was there" part is key. But for me, it's the fact we almost never found it. The dig was in 1939, right before the world went crazy. That helmet was nearly lost before we even knew it existed.
