My neighbor's moon filter advice saved my camera lens
My neighbor Bob, who's been into astrophotography for 20 years, told me to never shoot the full moon without a neutral density filter. I thought he was being dramatic so I tried a 2-second exposure at ISO 800 with my DSLR and a 300mm lens. The image was SO blown out, just a white blob with zero crater detail. I borrowed his cheap ND filter, dropped the exposure to 1/500, and got the sharpest crescent shots I've ever taken. Anyone else have a similar 'I should've listened sooner' moment with gear advice?
