Pro tip: get the moon phase wrong ONCE and your whole week of deep sky shots is toast
I had this unbelievable stretch last October where the weather cleared up for 5 nights in a row at Cherry Springs. First night I went after Andromeda and got some of my cleanest data ever. Then I realized I didn't check the moon calendar for day 3 - it was a full moon washing out everything through the weekend. Ended up with 2 amazing subs and 3 nights of junk. Does anyone else plan their whole week around lunar cycles or am I being too picky?

Well don't I feel silly, I've done the exact same thing myself more than once.

Mistakes like that are just part of learning, no need to feel silly about it at all. Actually thinking you're the only one who goofs up is way more unrealistic than messing up in the first place. Never understanding why people get embarrassed over stuff everyone does is just being honest.

Nights 3-5 at Cherry Springs were straight junk for me too that one time. I had driven 6 hours for that trip and forgot to even glance at the lunar phase chart before leaving. Now I keep a printed calendar taped to my camera bag like a paranoid person.
