That cheap timing light was off by 4 degrees, cost me a weekend

Picked up a budget timing light from a parts swap meet in Denver, figured it was fine for a hobby. Double checked with a buddy's Snap-On unit and my distributor was actually 4 degrees retarded the whole time. Anyone else found their bargain tools giving them phantom issues?
