Why does everybody skip the paint protection film on the door edges
I got my daily driver back in March and noticed last month that the only rock chips on the whole car were right along the door edges from parking lots. My buddy who runs a detail shop in Mesa showed me the 3M film strip he puts there, costs him about $15 in material, and I'd never heard a single person mention it in two years of reading this sub. Is there a reason people skip the edges, or is it just because it's not the flashy full front end job?
The door edge strips are actually super common in truck and offroad circles, but they never catch on with the car crowd because they don't look as clean on a lowered sedan. Your buddy is not wrong about the cost either, that $15 in film saves you way more than a repaint or touch up pen down the road. The main reason people skip it is the edges take real abuse and any film there gets chewed up fast, so they figure why bother if it only lasts a year or two. Still seems worth it to me if it keeps even a couple chips off the doors.
