@nancy475 Same here, that trick was a lifesaver on my last renovation. I had this weird textured wall I was trying to smooth out and nothing was working until I tried that old method. Just a little water and patience, let the plaster breathe a bit before you start working it. Made the whole job way easier and the finish came out cleaner than anything I'd tried before lol.

Marking your tools sounds like a time saver but it just trains you to trust your eyes over actual measurements. One wrong mark or a shifted tape roll and you'll be cutting everything an inch off before you even notice. Faster isn't better when you're building cabinets that need to be dead-on to the 16th.

Started doing the same thing but with a dry-erase board right above my monitors lol. Also got into the habit of rendering a single frame at full res before bed so I can spot any major issues in the morning before I waste a whole day.
