Old-school pin testing vs. modern built-in test, anybody else flip-flopped?
I grew up tracing every damn wire with a DMM and the schematic on my lap, took 2 hours per harness on a good day in San Antonio. Now the newer boxes run their own BIT and tell you exactly which card is bad, replaced a whole LRU in 20 minutes last Tuesday. But I still catch myself double-checking everything with the meter because BIT has lied to me twice, once on a C-130 and once on a 737. The newer guys just trust the screen and walk away, no continuity check at all. My old chief would've called that lazy, but honestly the factory diagnostics are getting scary good. So which is it for you pros, do you still ring out every pin or let the software sort it? Has anyone actually seen a bad BIT call that cost real money vs. the time savings?
