Overheard a guy at the parts counter talking about counterfeit connectors
He was saying someone at his shop installed 20 fake D-sub connectors on a King Air last month and they started arcing after 50 flight hours. Has anyone else run into these knockoffs from certain online suppliers?

Ordered a batch of those cheap DB connectors off Amazon once. Half of them had cracked shells right out of the bag, never used em on anything critical.

Ugh, I feel you on that. "Cracked shells right out of the bag" is way too common with those cheap lots. I bought a similar bundle once and half the pins were bent or missing altogether, it was a total gamble. It's almost not worth saving a few bucks when you can't trust the connectors to even hold together, let alone work. I've started just paying a little more for the name brand ones from Digikey or Mouser, it's just not worth the headache for me anymore.
