Hit 500 miles on my cheap foam pad last month and honestly I'm stunned it lasted this long
Back when I started section hiking the Appalachian Trail in 2011, everyone on the forums said you needed a $200 inflatable pad or you'd be miserable, so I grabbed a $40 closed cell foam one from a clearance bin in Gatlinburg and figured I'd upgrade by mile 50. Last month I crossed 500 total miles on that same pad, mostly on rocky stretches through Virginia and Pennsylvania, and it still holds up fine aside from a couple of worn spots. Has anyone else stuck with gear way longer than they planned just because it kept working, or am I the only one too stubborn to replace stuff?
