The dog story is great, but my favorite moments are overhearing snippets from other hikers. Like last month, I passed a dad quietly teaching his kid how to identify oak versus maple leaves. It wasn't a chat with me, but catching that little piece of their day was better than most full conversations. You get these perfect, unintended glimpses into people's lives. It turns a busy trail into a bunch of little stories walking past you.
