My neighbor leaned over the fence and said my $40 fire pit looked like a washing machine drum
He was right, so I rebuilt it in an afternoon in the backyard with a $12 grate off Facebook Marketplace. Now the whole block asks for my s'mores setup, what's the cheapest thing you've had to defend from the fence line?
My dad built a "smoker" out of an old filing cabinet back in like 2009 and the neighbor called it a trash can on fire. He got so mad he welded a little chimney on top and a door handle and suddenly everyone wanted him to smoke their brisket for the 4th of July. The thing still leaked smoke out of every seam but nobody cared once they tasted the ribs. I swear half of backyard cooking is just confidence and a good story about how you built the thing. My dad still brings up that filing cabinet at every family dinner like he invented the grill. Did your grate setup end up working better than the drum did, or did you just get tired of the jokes?
