After three failed sourdough loaves, I finally tried the ice cube steam trick and got a perfect crust

I was ready to give up on baking bread until I threw a few ice cubes in a preheated pan under my Dutch oven and ended up with the best ear I've ever gotten - has anyone else had that work way better than spraying water?

Man, my buddy Matt was ready to THROW his starter out after weeks of dense bricks. He tried the ice cube thing once and it literally changed his baking life, he won't shut up about it now.

Drop a couple ice cubes on top of the dough right when you put it in the Dutch oven? Curious if the vodka trick from @the_laura actually helps with oven spring or if it's more about that extra shatter in the crust. Trying to figure out if the ice cube method is a one-time fix or something you gotta keep doing every bake.
