I thought the 'freeze your cookie dough balls' trick was just a weird internet thing

A friend in Portland kept telling me to scoop my chocolate chip dough and freeze the balls solid before baking. I tried it last month with a batch of my usual recipe, baking them straight from the freezer at 325 for 18 minutes. The cookies spread WAY less and had these perfect, chewy centers I could never get before. It totally changed my weekend bake routine. Has anyone else found a simple trick like that that actually works?

Just saw @graceblack's comment and realized my whole life is also about chilling things, mostly myself on the couch. But yeah, freezing dough balls is the real deal. I started doing it after my cookies kept turning into one giant, flat sheet. Now they actually look like the picture on the bag of chips.

Yeah, I read that chilling the dough helps with spread.
