Nearly lost a client over a $47 bank fee I missed

The 3% thing hit me on a $150 payment from a client in Berlin last year and I didn't notice for three months because my invoicing software didn't separate fees clearly. It wasn't until I did my yearly audit that I saw the pattern and realized I'd lost almost $50 total. What nobody talks about is that some processors actually hide these fees in the exchange rate too, not just a line item. I refunded the client the difference plus a little extra and they were cool about it, but it took some trust rebuilding. Nowadays I always send a screenshot of the fee breakdown with my invoices so there's no surprises.

Showerthought: Those cheap panel testers I wrote off actually saved my butt on a Cessna 172

Man, I told myself the same thing, called it a glorified multimeter with a screen. Then I used one on a buddy's Archer that was doing this weird flicker on the strobes and it caught a cold solder joint I'd been chasing for two days. Guess we're all hypocrites now, huh? Just don't tell my Snap-on guy I said that, he'd lose his mind.

Spent an hour at a coding meetup in Austin yesterday and noticed something weird

Just learn enough to automate the boring stuff and you're golden.

Three hours trying to figure out why my game board smelled like old socks

Man, I feel your pain on this. Picked up a copy of Betrayal at House on the Hill from a flea market once and it smelled like someone stored it in a damp basement for years. Had to individually wipe each card with a dry cloth and leave them in a single layer on my dining table for two whole days. The tiles in Terraforming Mars are small and there's so many of them - that must have been a real test of patience. Did the vinegar trick actually get rid of the smell completely, or is there still a slight hint of it?
