My sourdough starter exploded in the fridge last night
I fed it on Monday and forgot to burp the jar before I left for work, came home to dough splattered all over the shelf and a cracked lid. Took me 2 hours to scrub the inside of my fridge with vinegar, and I lost most of the starter since it dried out. Anyone else have a routine to avoid this or should I just switch to a bigger container?

Yeah that cracked lid thing got me... I remember when I had a jar of sauerkraut do something similar, not exploded but it pushed the lid right off and the juice ran down into the crisper drawer where I had a bag of spinach. That spinach smelled like a wet gym sock for a week no matter how many times I washed it. Ended up just throwing the whole drawer out and buying a new one, which was way more expensive than a lid. Anyway, I started putting a dish towel under my fermenting jars after that, like a little landing pad for the mess. Doesn't stop the explosion but at least the cleanup is just the towel instead of the whole fridge. Your vinegar scrub sounds like a nightmare though, I would've just closed the door and pretended it didn't happen for a day or two.

Ha! I once forgot a burping jar and my whole fridge smelled like a brewery for a month.
